Elle étudie les divers moyens de rendre ces applications plus faciles a gérer dans un premier temps, puis autogérées à long terme. La gestion d'erreurs a pour objectif de détecter, diagnostiquer et réparer les erreurs qui peuvent survenir dans une application en cours d’exécution. Les solutions de gestion envisagées doivent non seulement être plus efficaces que celles qui existent aujourd'hui, mais elles doivent aussi posséder le potentiel d’être automatisées. Cette thèse propose donc une nouvelle approche qui maîtrise la plupart des difficultés inhérentes aux approches de gestion d'erreurs traditionnelle, telle qu'elle est utilisée dans la gestion des réseaux. Cette thèse représente un pas important dans l'identification des problèmes, la proposition des solutions possibles, et leur validation par des prototypes. II s'agit d'un travail de recherche qui constitue l’étape préalable indispensable a l'élaboration d'une solution opérationnelle. This thesis deals with the fault management of concurrent and distributed applications. It explores how they can be made easier to manage, and - as a long term goal - how they can become self-managing. The goal of fault management is to detect, diagnose and repair faults that may occur in the application at run-time. This thesis searches for management solutions that are more effective than those currently existing, and have potential for being reused and automated. It proposes a novel approach that overcomes many of the difficulties encountered currently in fault management. It constitutes seminal work that outlines the problems and possible solutions and validates them through selective prototyping. Obviously, it does not yet provide a full-fledged and turnkey solution to automatic management.
