In addressing the issue of the Canadian market for non-native Canadian English (CanE) speakers - and, in doing so, the issue of CanE speakers translating outside the Canadian market - this paper examines translation into CanE and determines whether or not translating into this English is necessary, based on text type. The issue of World Englishes is covered briefly, and the unique aspects of CanE as compared to American and British English are determined. Several Fr-CanE translations are divided into text type (those identified by Katharina Reiss - informative, operative, and expressive) and analyzed to determine whether or not translating into CanE is necessary for these texts and, in general, for their respective text types. The paper concludes that it is necessary to translate into CanE when working with informative and operative texts, but not when working with expressive texts.
