The translation of verbal humor, particularly within the context of the American sitcom Family Guy, presents significant challenges when dubbing from English into Italian. This product-oriented research adopts a mixed-methods approach to explore translation tendencies within a representative sample of ten episodes. The analysis focuses on three categories of humorous elements: community and institutions elements, community-sense-of-humour elements and linguistic elements. Through coding and analysis, the research identifies prevailing trends in the translation of verbal humor. The results reveal a predominant tendency to preserve the original humorous elements and their content, with a secondary tendency of maintaining elements through adaptation or substitution of the content. However, the Italian version contains fewer humorous elements when compared to the original. This study not only highlights the complexities in humor translation but also provides data that demonstrates the existence of translation trends for humorous elements.
