Abstract

Futsal is a form of international football with specific laws of the game. It is played indoors by two teams of four field players and one goalkeeper each and is not the same as indoor football. Futsal is characterized as a multiple-sprints sport that requires high physical, technical, and tactical demands of every player. Both high aerobic and anaerobic capacities are needed in this sport, with especially high-intensity phases throughout the game and with less phase of recovery than football on grass. Most of the 195.6 injuries per 1000 player-hours occur due to direct contact with another player and are seen on the lower limbs. Therefore, contusions are very frequent, followed by groin and calf strains. Cramps are very rarely seen in futsal. The major difference to football played on grass is the high involvement of every player in the game at all time, and therefore the little recovery time during the match, and the heavier ball, which changes the type of play, the skills of the player and the type of injury consistently.
