Abstract

In recent exegesis, the diversity of approaches and methods has become the norm. While often stimulating, it may also overwhelm. For how can we combine such disparate tools as discourse analysis and the comparative approach? And what about source criticism and intertextuality, two analytical tools historically separated by a certain discrepancy? This article reviews the main issues raised in the exegesis of the Bible by these questions of method, particularly their possible articulation. It also illustrates two heuristic combinations of methods imposed by both the research questions and the complexity of the objects studied. The first is drawn from prophetic literature, and the second from Deutero-Paulinian writings.
