Abstract

In this thesis we propose a 5-dimensional therapeutic patient education (TPE) programme for the reversal of metabolic diseases such as T2D. It draws the links between learning about one's disease and improving one's health and expands this to a model for the transformation of the person. Several dimensions of a human's learning and transformation process, including the cognitive, affective and perceptive dimensions, are considered in this model. Addressing these elements increases the patient's ability to undertake a learned approach to improving his/her health and thus gain in free will and quality of life. The proposed TPE programme could lead to more efficient personalized patient education, institutional group teaching or public health programmes. It represents the first integrative scheme for the reversal of T2D and other metabolic diseases and can be transferred worldwide and at a low cost.
