Living and working on a waste landfill. A Post-War Boom legacy in Geneva

TranslatorsWagner, Valeria
Publication date2019
Abstract

Geneva City's management of garbage, like other European cities, has changed through time. After World War II, the volume of household garbage increased massively, alongside the increase of population. In 1957, local authorities decided to open a landfill at the site of Nant des Grandes-Communes. This landfill was used until 1962. A sanitation of the landfill was undertaken in 1998-2005 but it still produces methane emissions (2019).
