Abstract

This present study aims to evaluate three Computer-Assisted Translation tools (CAT) in Arabic: SDL Trados Studio 2017, OmegaT and MateCat. The objective of the study is to test the usefulness of the three tools in improving the translation process in Arabic. The evaluation process builds on EAGLES 7 steps and ISO/IEC 25010, in addition to data collected from the Master students with regard to the needs and challenges of CAT tools. On the basis of the above criteria, a questionnaire was set up to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of four specific functions - Alignment, Translation Memory, Termbase, Analysis – of the three programmes when rendering in Arabic financial, economic and technological texts in different formats (doc, xlsx, ppt, pdf). The results obtained present conclusions on the three programmes' performance, as well as their advantages and disadvantages in relation to Arabic processing.
