Abstract

A qualitative research conducted in the area of organizational socialization of newcomers. This a term commonly studied in the context of Human Resource Management as well as in the area Organizational behaviour. The main objective of this research was therefore to gain an understanding from a different perspective, the learning perspective. This study provides a preliminary understanding of the kinds of practices involved in the socialization process of newly recruited adult educators. It is an endeavour to understand how newcomers tend to learn the content of a new role or an organization's culture (norms, values, know-how, rituals etc.) in order to be integrated within its parameters and context. Data was collected through comprehensive semi-direct interviews. The sorts of data included participants' experiences and practices of their socialization processes as well as their perceptions of their identities. The main results include the role of past experience in the genesis of the socialization process, the value of communities of practice and the evolution of the newcomer's identity.
