Abstract

A family of molecular centers of the type (RO2M)2+ is shown to exist in the alkaline earth fluorides MF2 (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) doped with R = Sc, Y, Lu, Ho when these crystals have been hydrolyzed and subsequently X-rayed. The centers were identified with the aid of Raman spectroscopy and, in the past, with electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR).
