Revisiting grid refinement algorithms for the lattice Boltzmann method

Abstract

In this thesis, we are interested in grid refinement for the lattice Boltzmann method. Although the topic has been already studied by the community, there is room for improvements, both in the theoretical and practical explanations provided so far. In particular, we have proposed two improved operations and a generic implementation based on the Palabos library. Our implementation is then tested on laminar and turbulent problems both in 2D and 3D.
