Markers of vulnerability for emotion dysregulation disorders

Defense date2021-11-01
Abstract

In the context of prevention in mental health, a rising concern, recent advances in psychiatric research advocate for the development of early intervention for adolescents. Indeed, adolescence is a period of high vulnerability to psychiatric disorders, associated with specific brain development's steps. The model of clinical staging for psychiatric disorders suggests that early interventions should target transdiagnostic vulnerability markers, however such markers are difficult to uncover. Nevertheless, following a dimensional approach, emotion dysregulation could represent an important marker for different disorders, particularly in affective and impulse- control disorders. We will review here the arguments linking emotion dysregulation, brain development and the emergence of psychiatric disorders, as well as the various biological markers associated, following with the therapeutic interventions that could target these markers.
