Mediality/Intermediality

Publication date2008
Abstract

The essays explore a wide diversity of medial phenomena ranging from Shakespearean drama to contemporary literature, and from the motif of the Arthurian Round Table to the treatment of a metafictional novel in cartoon form. The core issues discussed include theory and methodology, the practical value of mediality for literary studies, the relationship between the written text and visual representation, and the role of performance and performativity. Collectively, the essays constitute a comprehensive investigation of some of the most pressing concerns in the study of mediality and intermediality.
