Abstract A liquid chromatography-thermospray ionisation-mass spectrometry guided fractionation of the mycelial extract of Armillaria novae-zelandiae (strain CBS 432.72) led to the isolation of a new protoilludane sesquiterpene aryl ester, 6'-chloro-10 alpha-hydroxymelleolide (9). The antibacterial and antifungal activity of 9 was determined.
